NU field hockey program signs seven to letters of intent

For the second consecutive year, Northwestern field hockey coach Marisa Didio signed seven players to letters of national intent.

NU announced yesterday that it had inked three Chicago natives along with players from Maine, Ohio, Pennsylvania and British Columbia. All seven garnered impressive awards in high school.

The Chicagoans, Wenny Ng, Lauren Przyborowski and Stephanie Pullos, were all members of the Illinois All-State team in high school.

Megan Sieberg was an All-Ohio and all-regional selection in her career at Maumee Valley County Day in Toledo, Ohio.

Christina Foley, a high school teammate of current NU player Thadia Rintel, was an all-state selection out of Cape Elizabeth High School in Maine and a 2002 Miss Maine Field Hockey nominee.

Meghan Small, of Macungie, Penn., was a Pennsylvania High School Field Hockey Coaches’ Association All-State selection.

Goalkeeper Sherri-Anne Nyberg was selected for the 2003 Canadian Junior National Squad and was also a nominee for British Columbia’s Athlete of the Year in 2002.

The seven standouts will join a team that went a much-improved 6-13 in 2002. In 2001, the Cats won just two games.
