Kappa Sig members charged in beer bottle barrage on Beta

Two Kappa Sigma fraternity members were arrested and charged in connection with the throwing of beer bottles through the windows of a fraternity house on Friday of finals week.

The members, Paul Metzger and Dennis Flowers, both 21, were both charged with reckless conduct, said Lt. Nicholas Parashis of University Police. Flowers also was charged with criminal damage to property.

Around 1 a.m. on March 21, two men threw two 40-ounce beer bottles through two first floor windows of Beta Theta Pi, said Mike Hoaglin, the fraternity’s risk manager.

Hoaglin, a McCormick junior, said two members of Beta who were studying at the time of the incident received minor glass wounds.

Both members of the fraternity received first aid from Hoaglin.

Metzger and Flowers were apprehended by police as the two ran down Sheridan Road, Hoaglin said.

Neither Hoaglin nor UP would comment on the motivation for the incident.

Metzger and Flowers are scheduled to appear April 8 at Circuit Court in Skokie. They could not be reached for comment.
