Ninth robbery in three weeks nets thief $80, wallet, police say

A 48-year-old Evanston man was mugged Wednesday night while walking on the 1700 block of Hovland Court.

This is the ninth robbery in Evanston within three weeks.

Two men approached the man from behind and threw him to the ground, said Cmdr. Michael Perry of Evanston Police Department.

The attackers kicked the man until he let go of his gym bag, Perry said.

The yellow and white bag contained the man’s wallet, about $80 in cash, and various forms of identification and credit cards. The men fled with the bag.

The victim did not require medical care.

The first suspect is described as 17 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches in height and approximately 180 pounds.

The second suspect is described as 17 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches in height, and approximately 200 pounds.

Both suspects were last seen wearing black sweatshirts with hoods, jogging pants and gym shoes.

Perry said there is no connection between this robbery and any of the previous eight robberies.

This is the second robbery on Hovland Court. On Sunday, a man was dragged from his car and robbed at gunpoint while waiting at a stop sign on Hovland Court and Church Street. The attackers took a wallet, which contained $30, a silver chain from the man’s neck and a cellular phone.
