Ever since he was 16 years old, Pat Fitzgerald knew he wanted to be a football coach.
And when he got to Northwestern as a player in the mid-1990s, he fell in love with his school to the point where he hoped to be back decades later on the staff. But for one of the greatest players in NU history, the wait wasn’t nearly that long.
“My goal was to make it back by the time I was 40,” said Fitzgerald, who today will be named the Wildcats’ defensive backs coach. “And to be back by 26 is a great honor.”
