A conservative activist group filed a notice to appeal its civil lawsuit against Northwestern on Feb. 14, alleging the hiring practices at Pritzker School of Law discriminate against white, male candidates.
The group — Faculty, Alumni, and Students Opposed to Racial Preferences — filed its appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit a day after a federal judge terminated the case at the district level.
In the lawsuit, FASORP named white male candidates for Pritzker faculty positions who were not hired, alleging the law school instead has been “hiring women and racial minorities with mediocre and undistinguished records over white men who have better credentials, better scholarship, and better teaching ability.”
According to the Feb. 13 district court judgement, FASORP had indicated it did not intend to issue an amended complaint.
The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois previously approved NU’s motion to dismiss the civil case Jan. 22.
FASORP filed its first lawsuit against the University in July 2024. The group dismissed the case Jan. 31, 2025 but filed a similar case the next day.
