Northwestern is investigating “despicable and hateful graffiti” found on signs around campus Feb. 1, according to a statement to The Daily from a University spokesperson.
“Based on that investigation, we have identified a suspect who we believe is unaffiliated with Northwestern,” a NU spokesperson wrote in the Feb. 8 statement. “The University is working with local law enforcement on next steps, including potential criminal charges.”
On Feb. 2, a student posted on the platform Fizz that they had found one of the hate symbols, which resembles a swastika, along with a photo.
The University “immediately” removed the symbols, the spokesperson wrote in the statement, adding that it has based its investigation on several methods, including camera footage.
