Northwestern’s Office of Undergraduate Financial Aid announced the update of its financial aid policies for the summer term, according to a Thursday email obtained by The Daily, which revoked several policies put in place last February.
Students are once again eligible to apply if they have received summer financial aid in the past. Last year, aid was restricted to students who had not received summer aid before.
The updates similarly revoke last year’s policy requiring students to be enrolled in two or more credits over the summer to be eligible. Now, undergraduates will be eligible for summer funding if they plan on taking credit-bearing coursework of one to four units.
The University’s new conditions also no longer require students to submit a separate application for the summer aid if they have already completed the FAFSA form or are currently receiving aid as an international student.
Funding may be provided to students participating in Chicago Field Studies or partaking in Engage Chicago, according to the office. However, these changes do not apply to students taking part in study abroad programs through NU, where students will only be eligible for financial aid for one study abroad experience.
Those interested in pursuing low-paid or unpaid internships during the summer can also apply for a grant of $3,500 through the NU Career Advancement Summer Internship Grant Program, according to the office. These grants will be administered separately from students’ financial aid for the summer term.
