At least 700 ballots were cast Tuesday at Northwestern’s campus voting stations.
From 6 a.m to 7 p.m, steady streams of students and community members filed into the two primary voting stations across campus: in Parkes Hall and Noyes Cultural Arts Center.
First-time election judge Susan Treacy said the turnout throughout the day at Parkes Hall had been “very high” and the energy was “palpable.” It appeared to be a noticeable jump compared to previous election cycles, she added.
By 4:30 p.m., nearly 500 ballots were cast by students at the site.
“Overall, students have been really excited and positive and just really proud to vote,” Treacy said.
This year, voters in Illinois could register to vote and cast their ballot at the same time during early voting or on Election Day.
Earlier in September, NU Votes, the University’s non-partisan initiative that provides voting information resources, helped register over 1,200 new students during their orientation process.
NU has also seen high voter turnout in past elections. During the 2022 midterms, student voting rates reached over 40%, and registration rates hovered around 89.5%, according to NU Votes.
