Northwestern finished second overall at the St Andrews Links Collegiate tournament Wednesday in St Andrews, Scotland.
The Wildcats lost to Arizona in the championship match, 4.5-1.5, losing three matches and tying three on the historic Old Course at St Andrews, believed to be the oldest golf course in the world.
Sophomore Ashley Yun earned her first collegiate individual title after a five-under-par performance in Tuesday’s two rounds of stroke play on the Jubilee Course.
NU beat out Arizona, the University of St Andrews and Howard University during stroke play and ended Tuesday as the top seed entering into Wednesday’s match play.
Junior Dianna Lee and freshman Elise Lee each shot par in stroke play. Senior Lauryn Nguyen, junior Jiayi Wang and freshman Hsin Tai Lin rounded out the ’Cats’ scoring at St Andrews.
During match play, Yun racked up five birdies and ended 2-under on the 72-par historic Old Course.
Nguyen locked down three birdies in her first seven holes as both she and Wang ended 1-under. Elise Lee earned a half-point for Northwestern, drawing her opponent with a pair of birdies on her front nine. Yun, Lin and Dianna Lee lost their match play ties.
This was the final tournament of the ’Cats’ fall season.
