Ekpedeme Bassey to deliver SESP convocation address

Ekpedeme Bassey has spent decades working in educational technology and learning sciences.

Ekpedeme Bassey (McCormick ’95), chief learning and diversity officer for the Kraft Heinz Company, will deliver the School of Education and Social Policy’s convocation address, the school announced May 1. 

Bassey develops and implements training programs at Kraft Heinz for about 40,000 employees in 30 countries. She also created the 365 Days of Learning project at Kraft Heinz, making a commitment to learn something new every day for a year and share it with her company. 

Before starting at Kraft Heinz in 2018, she worked in education technology, corporate education and as an associate professor for multiple fully online and hybrid universities. 

At Northwestern, Bassey received a master’s in computer science and applied her skills to learning sciences. She continues to encourage professional and personal learning in her work, according to the release.

She made Crain’s List of Notable Executives in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in 2021 for her work in DEI at Kraft Heinz. Savoy Magazine also listed her as one of the most influential Black corporate directors that year. 

SESP’s convocation will begin at 2:30 p.m. on June 12 at the Ryan Fieldhouse.
