A loss prevention agent for Target reported Tuesday that a man stole $20 worth of liquor from the store’s location on Sherman Avenue.

The security officer told Evanston Police Department officers that he observed a man place a bottle of Smirnoff vodka into his satchel and leave the store without paying, EPD Cmdr. Ryan Glew said. The man left the store on foot, walking north on Sherman Avenue.

The suspect is not in custody, but the security footage of the incident has been placed in evidence at EPD, Glew said.

Cash stolen from hospital employee

A 22-year-old patient care technician who works at the Evanston Hospital, located in the 2600 block of Ridge Avenue, reported that $500 cash was stolen from her wallet while she was at work Tuesday.

The woman left her backpack, which contained her wallet, unattended in the employee break room on the second floor of the hospital, Glew said. The room was not locked, and when the employee returned, she noticed someone had opened her backpack and wallet. Five $100 bills were missing from her wallet, Glew said. No other items were taken.

There are no suspects and no one in custody, he added.
