A 50-year-old Evanston resident was charged with obstructing traffic and disobeying police in public Wednesday afternoon after being arrested at the Evanston Fourth of July parade.

The woman was arrested near Central Street and McDaniel Avenue after declining to move out of the way of the parade, Evanston police Cmdr. Ryan Glew said.

She was walking “very slowly” down Central Street in front of the parade and holding up traffic, Glew said. The woman told police she was protesting.

She was given many opportunities to comply before she was arrested and charged with the two city ordinances, Glew said.
