October 19, 2017
An Evanston resident was arrested Wednesday night in connection with retail theft and battery in south Evanston.
Police were called to the Jewel-Osco in the 2400 block of Howard Street for a disturbance, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said. The store’s security guard had observed the man place four bottles of liquor in his backpack and leave without paying.
When confronted outside the store, the 63-year-old pushed the guard in the chest and face, Dugan said. The guard, who had a scrape on his face that did not require medical attention, detained the man until police arrived.
The man was arrested in connection with retail theft and battery, both misdemeanors.
