Blotter: Highland Park man issued citation for using cell phone while driving, suspended license

A Highland Park man was issued a citation Tuesday for using his cell phone while driving and having a suspended license.

An officer observed the driver between Dodge Avenue and Davis Street talking on his cell phone Tuesday at about 6:30 p.m. The officer pulled the vehicle over in the 1900 block of Church Street, Evanston police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan said.

When the officer checked the man’s license, the officer saw the license was suspended, Dugan said. The driver was issued a citation for driving with a suspended license and using a cell phone while driving.

Hospital employee’s laptop stolen from backpack

A 41-year-old Evanston Hospital employee reported a stolen MacBook Pro on Thursday afternoon after leaving his backpack in a room in the hospital.

The man left his backpack on the fifth floor of the hospital in the 2600 block of Ridge Avenue. When the man returned at 3:00 p.m., his MacBook Pro was missing, Dugan said. The laptop is valued at $1,500.
