Cross Country: Roberts runs at World Championships in Uganda

Freshman Audrey Roberts finished 55th in the under-20 race at the IAAF Cross Country World Championships in Kampala, Uganda on Sunday.

Roberts completed the six kilometer circuit in 22:18, making her the third American to cross the finish line. Letesenbet Gidey of Ethiopia won the race in 18:34.

Her time was an improvement on the 22:42 she ran at the U.S. championships. She finished second in that race to qualify for worlds.

“This was such a great experience for Audrey,” coach ‘A Havahla Haynes said in a news release. “She has represented Northwestern at the highest level possible in both the NCAA and the international stage.”

Roberts had a banner freshman season for the Cats, recording the team’s fastest times in both the 5K and 6K distances. She won her first college race, was 12th at the Big Ten Championships and finished fourth at NCAA regionals to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
