Junior Strong Kirchheimer was named the Big Ten men’s tennis Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

In the Wildcats’ four matches over the past week, Kirchheimer went 8-0 in singles and doubles matches. The Cats’ No. 3 singles player went into the last week ranked No. 97 in the nation in singles, but that is sure to rise after he defeated three ranked players, highlighted by a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 win over No. 54 Guillermo Nunez in NU’s 4-3 loss to TCU.

Kirchheimer and his doubles partner, senior Fedor Baev, won all four of their matches in the past week playing at the No. 1 doubles slot. Their victories included beating the No. 67 and No. 78 doubles pairs from TCU and Indiana, respectively.

Kirchheimer has compiled a successful record in singles and doubles with a 21-3 singles record (15-1 duals). He and Baev are 15-6 (11-4) in doubles play so far this year.
