Recent string of break-ins involves student off-campus houses

Four incidents of trespassing and burglary near the Evanston campus in the past two weeks prompted Northwestern to issue a reminder Sunday warning students living off campus to secure their residences.

Two of the incidents occurred Sunday morning between 5:40 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., when students residing in the 1900 block of Orrington Avenue and the 1900 block of Sherman Avenue awoke to an unknown individual entering their respective bedrooms.

No physical injuries were reported to police in any of the four incidents.

Sunday’s events followed another incident occurring Sept. 22 at about 11:15 p.m. at another student residence in the 900 block of Gaffield Place. The residents reported an individual took a laptop and video game console.

The first reported incident took place Sept. 4 at about 8:15 p.m., when a student encountered an individual exiting the back door of their apartment in the 800 block of Hamlin Street.

In all of the reported incidents, the individuals gained access through an unsecured door.
