Illinois bluegrass groups to open Philfest

Bluegrass groups The Templetons and Mad Bread will open Philfest, A&O Productions and Students for Ecological and Environmental Development announced Thursday.

The Templetons and Mad Bread will open for Della Mae, a Grammy-nominated bluegrass band headlining the Saturday show.

The Templetons are a family bluegrass band from Lostant, Illinois, comprising Mike and Lisa Templeton and their six oldest children. They have recorded two albums.

Mad Bread is a string band based out of Chicago. They mix rock, bluegrass and blues in their music.

Philfest starts at 1 p.m. on Norris University Center’s East Lawn. Admission is free and any donations will go to sustainability organization Rocky Mountain Institute.
