Dance Marathon raised more than $1 million for the fifth consecutive year.

DM’s finance committee revealed the final fundraising total of $1,130,979, the organization’s lowest since 2012, early Sunday morning. In 2014, DM brought in a record-breaking $1,385,273.

Of the money raised, $836,489.57 went to DM’s primary beneficiary for 2015, the Starlight Children’s Foundation. The check was the second-largest given in the organization’s history, said DM executive co-chair David Ryan, a Weinberg senior. The money will fund Starlight Sites in Chicago-area hospitals, which aim to create welcoming and kid-friendly hospital environments for chronically ill children.

DM gave $92,943.29 to its secondary beneficiary of 18 years, the Evanston Community Foundation. Sara Schastok, who plans to retire this year, accepted the check for the last time as ECF’s president and CEO.
