Evanston’s Piven Theatre Workshop is hosting a new program called Anytime/Anywhere: The Piven Improvisation Series.

The program, which runs from Feb. 7 to March 1, involves students, adults, teachers and members of the Piven Empowerment through Enrichment Program, which is designed for adults with developmental disabilities.

“Piven has for years given its students and theatre artists pathways to performance in scene work and story theatre,” said Jennifer Green, artistic director of Piven Theatre, in a press release.

“With Anytime/Anywhere, we’ve established a vehicle for some of our best players to perform improv on our stage,” Green said.

Green will be the curator of the Anytime/Anywhere production during its time at the theater, 927 Noyes St.

Anyone previously involved with Piven Theatre was encouraged to participate in the new improvisation series, according to a news release. Those interested in participating formed teams and went through an audition process. The selected individuals were paired with Piven teachers for support and assistance in preparation for the final production.

Since its founding 43 years ago, Piven Theatre Workshop maintains a tradition of improvisation.

“The history of mentorship at Piven has a deep and rich history,” Green said, in the press release. “Kids who come to us as students grow up here, find their artistic home here, they come back during and after college, they learn to teach here, they perform here. And we are with them, mentoring, every step of the way.”
