A 19-year-old Chicago woman was shot in the leg Wednesday morning after making a wrong turn onto Custer Avenue while driving, Evanston police said.

The woman turned north on Custer Avenue at Main Street and hit a dead end at about 2 a.m. While the woman was turning her car around, another car drove down the street. A person in the other car fired shots at the woman’s car, hitting her in the leg.

There were two other passengers in the woman’s vehicle. One of the passengers called the police and the woman was transported to St. Francis Hospital.

Police said the shooter fled the scene.
