An Evanston woman sustained serious injuries Monday morning after she was hit by a motorcyclist while riding her bike on Church Street, police said.

The woman, 55, was crossing mid-block in the 600 block of Church Street at about 9 a.m. when she entered the path of the motorcyclist, who was traveling east-bound down the street, police said. Police said she was transported by the Evanston fire department to Evanston Hospital, where she is in critical condition and has undergone surgery for a head injury.

The motorcyclist, a 27-year-old male Chicago resident, sustained no injuries, police said.

After the accident, traffic officers were assisted by investigators from the Major Crash Assistance Team, but no citations were issued, police said.

During the preliminary investigation, the Evanston Police Department’s Traffic Bureau located an individual that observed the incident, police said.

The accident resulted in an about three-hour closure of the 600 block of Church Street while the incident was being investigated, police said.
