Metra trains traveling through Evanston were delayed up to 20 minutes Monday evening after a car hit a viaduct near the Central Street station, according to officials.

The vehicle struck a pillar on Simpson Street underneath the tracks of the Union Pacific/North Line, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said. The tracks were inspected before service returned to normal.

There were no injuries related to the crash, Evanston Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott said.

Most of the delays, which Metra estimated at 10 to 20 minutes, appeared to occur during the 6 p.m. hour.
