Juc E Frut wins Mayfest’s Battle of the Bands, gets Dillo Day slot

Juc E Frut, an eclectic band comprised of Northwestern students, will open Dillo Day after winning Mayfest’s Battle of the Bands on Friday.

The band won following a two-day competition against seven other NU musical groups at 27 Live, 1012-14 Church St. The event was judged by Wil Heintz, a Mayfest co-chair and Weinberg senior; Jeremy Shpizner, a Mayfest co-chair and Communication senior; Chase Jackson (Weinberg ’12), former A&O Productions chairman; and Priya Malhotra (Weinberg ’10), a WNUR DJ.

Juc E Frut formed in 2011 in the basement of Chi Psi Fraternity and played at Battle of the Bands in 2012, according to the Mayfest Tumblr.

Other Battle of the Band contestants included Addy, Nebula, Turnt, Appomattox Trap House, Mori and the Moonwalkers, Ric Cross and W.O.R.D. (World Order Rap Domination).
