Northwestern tied a school-record with 17 hits, outslugging Houston 13-9 to advance to the final of the Austin Regional on Sunday.
The Wildcats fell behind 3-0 after the first inning, but lit up the Cougars for seven runs in the second inning to take the lead. NU tacked on three runs in the third frame to take a 10-5 lead.
Freshman hurler Amy Letourneau came on in relief of junior Meghan Lamberth and threw five and two thirds innings giving up three hits and four unearned runs. She stranded the bases loaded in the seventh inning to end the game.
NU moves on to face No. 6 Texas on Sunday. The Cats must win one of a possible two games against the Longhorns to move on to the Super Regionals and face Oregon next weekend.
