Police recover drugs, gun in bust
Evanston police arrested four people after serving a search warrant Tuesday that found cannabis and an assault weapon at an Evanston home, ccording to an EPD news release.
The narcotics and gang crimes unit of the Neighborhood Enforcement Team searched a house in the 1700 block of Monroe Street after receiving complaints about drug possession, EPD spokesman Cmdr. Jay Parrott said in the news release. N.E.T. officers worked with Northern Illinois Police Alarm System officers to seize about 115 grams of cannabis, an AR-15 assault rifle, $900 worth of assault rifle ammunition and items commonly used for packaging cannabis for sale.
A 34-year-old man was charged on seven counts, including aggravated unlawful use of weapon and illegal possession of cannabis with intent to deliver. Police charged a 24-year-old with unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver. Those two men are scheduled to appear in court Feb. 16.
The other two men were charged with possession of cannabis and are scheduled to appear in court March 1.
NU staff member’s car hit in accident
A construction worker reported a gold vehicle pulled over in front of Cook Hall and hit a silver Toyota before fleeing the scene Tuesday afternoon, University Police Cmdr. Darren Davis said.
A Northwestern staff member owns the car, which was hit at 2220 Campus Drive. University police officers investigated the plate number that the construction worker reported, but no matching record was found, Davis said. They also reviewed the video, which did not show the plate number.
