I understand there is very little school spirit at NU, but what I saw at Welsh-Ryan Arena Wednesday for the volleyball match was unacceptable.

There were twice as many people in orange than purple and there were numerous chants of ILL-INI. Illinois even brought their own student section. I understand the weather was terrible, but there is no reason for more of the opposing school’s students to show up than our own.

I have never seen any student body have as little school spirit as ours does. Football games are never packed until after the game starts, basketball rarely sells out the student section and almost no students show up to any of the minor sporting events.

Some of you may not be sports fans and that’s fine, I can respect that. But I know that there are many of you who would shell out your precious money to take the El to a professional sporting event, but won’t use your WildCARD to see major college athletics for free. NU is in the Big Ten, the best conference in the country. Utilize the opportunity to watch the sports stars of tomorrow.

If you love this school as much as I do, I beg you to show it in the stands as your fellow students leave their blood, sweat and tears on the field/court/diamond for our school.
