Evanston hosts trip to Indiana wind farm
Evanston residents drove to Indiana on Friday to take a closer look at a wind farm.
The Wind Farm Committee recommended the idea to the city, said Catherine Hurley, Evanston’s sustainable programs coordinator, who attended the trip. The group of around 12 people started by looking at the wind farm from several miles away, then moved in and stood at the base of a turbine, she said.
The committee suggested the trip so residents could see what a wind farm looks like, said Nicolai Schouseboe, a member of the wind farm committee. No one seemed to be overwhelmed by the wind farm, though the appearance of the turbines is something the committee will consider when drafting its report to the City Council recommending further action, he added. The committee will hold a meeting Thursday to finalize the contents of the report before presenting the findings to the City Council in June.
