Cab driver shot in south Evanston

A cab driver was shot in south Evanston early Sunday morning, police said.

Evanston Police responded to the 500 block of Elmwood Avenue at around 2 a.m. Sunday in reference to a cab that had struck a parked vehicle. When police arrived at the scene, they found the cab driver had been shot in the head, according to an EPD news release.

Evanston Fire Department officials transported the man, a driver for Best Taxi, to a hospital. He was in critical condition and on life support as of 10 a.m. Sunday morning.

EPD is working with North Regional Major Crime Task Force to investigate the shooting. Officials declined to release the man’s name until next of kin were notified.
