The person struck by a Metra train at the Central Street Station on Sunday night did so on purpose, police said Monday.
“Witness interviews determined this person’s actions were viewed as deliberate,” Evanston Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther said.
Guenther said the pedestrian, who survived the incident, stepped in front of the train as it pulled into the station, leaving the train no time to stop.
The Evanston Fire Department transported the individual to a local hospital, he said.
The incident occurred at around 7:20 p.m., when the outbound Union Pacific North Line train No. 815 was pulling into the station, Metra officials said.
