Metra train strikes pedestrian

Train strikes pedestrian at Evanston station

A Metra train struck a pedestrian at the Central Street station on Sunday night, Metra officials said.

Union Pacific North Line train No. 815, an outbound train from Chicago to Kenosha, Wis., was pulling into the Central Street station, 1826 Central St., at around 7:20 p.m. when it struck a pedestrian, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.

Miller said he had no details on the victim or what exactly happened because he did not yet have a police report when The Daily contacted him at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday. He said the pedestrian was still alive when taken to Evanston Hospital.

The train was delayed at the station for a little longer than an hour. It was allowed to continue to the next station, Wilmette, at 8:30 p.m., Miller said.

Check back tomorrow for more details about the incident.
