Evanston man resists arrest, hides under blanket, police say
Police arrested an Evanston resident Wednesday after he allegedly beat a relative, hid under a blanket when police came, fought the officers who tried to handcuff him and spat in two officers’ faces at the police station.
Victor Shea, of 700 block of Case Street, allegedly battered a relative he lives with, according to a news release from Evanston police. When officers responded to the call from the relative at 4:35 a.m., they discovered Shea hiding under a blanket on the living room couch. Officers were unsure if Shea was carrying weapons. They removed the blanket and commanded Shea to stand up and cooperate with the investigation. Shea refused to comply and police officers attempted to handcuff him. Shea reacted by jumping to his feet and forming fists in an attempt to evade the officers. He then pulled away from the officers, fighting their attempts to handcuff him. Officers eventually handcuffed Shea and transported him to the police station.
At the station during processing, Shea remained aggressive and agitated, spitting in two officers’ faces. This resulted in additional charges. Police charged Shea with one misdemeanor charge of domestic battery, one misdemeanor charge of battery, two misdemeanor counts of aggravated assault, one misdemeanor count of resisting and obstructing police and one felony count of aggravated battery.
