Man stopped, punched in face while walking in Evanston
A man went to the hospital after an attacker punched him in the face on the 1300 block of Sherman Avenue on Wednesday, Evanston Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther said.
The victim was walking southbound on Sherman Avenue between Dempster and Greenwood streets at 8:49 p.m. when a man grabbed him from behind and demanded money.
The victim told the attacker he had no money, and the attacker searched the victim’s backpack and pockets, taking his Samsung cell phone, Guenther said. When the victim looked up, the attacker punched him in the face and fled north.
Window screens removed, damaged at Evanston home
A woman reported suspicious activity to Evanston Police on Wednesday after multiple window screens were removed or damaged from her home on the 1700 block of Leland Avenue, Guenther said.
The woman found her kitchen window screen open on Tuesday, Guenther said. At 7 a.m. on Wednesday, she noticed the screen from her basement window was removed and damaged. The incident was reported to police, who found no entry had been gained to the house.
Side door window shattered at Simpston Street residence
A woman reported property damage to Evanston Police on Wednesday at 2:52 p.m. when she found the window of the rear side door to her Simpson Street residence shattered, Guenther said.
It is unclear whether an intruder entered the house. Police performed a check of the residence but could not determine if anything was missing, he said.
