Evanston lights Christmas tree downtown

The city of Evanston will host its annual holiday tree lighting ceremony Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in Fountain Square on Sherman Avenue downtown. Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl, Santa Claus and Kathy Kessenich, Rotary International’s Associate General Secretary, will be in attendance and will arrive at the event on an Evanston fire truck.

There will be a reception at the Rotary International Cafe at One Rotary Center, 1560 Sherman Ave., that will feature holiday giveaways. Warm weather accessories donations for Hilda’s Place, the city’s emergency housing and support services for the homeless, will be accepted at the event. The event is free to everyone.
