Evanston rewards Twitter follower with NU tickets
Followers of the City of Evanston’s Twitter account had the chance to win free Northwestern football tickets on Monday. The city offered two tickets to Saturday’s game against Central Michigan University to the first Twitter follower to post a photo featuring a purple fire hydrant, which the city painted as part of its “Paint Evanston Purple” festivities. The winner responded about one hour later with a post of himself next to a fire hydrant by Argo Tea.
Evanston Hospital teaches infant safety, CPR class Wednesday
Evanston Hospital, 2650 Ridge Ave., offers an infant safety and CPR class Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. The American Heart Association CPR class is intended for citizens who want to know more about how to respond in an emergency, according to the hospital’s website. This course follows the guidelines of the American Heart Association’s “CPR for Family & Friends” program but does not offer a specific certification. There will be no written examination. The class costs $35.
Piccolo Theatre play runs Fridays, Saturdays through October
The Piccolo Theatre, 600 Main St., presents “Low Pay? Don’t Pay!” from Sept. 10 through Oct. 23. The play, written by Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo and directed by John Szostek, chronicles the economic troubles of two Italian housewives and the creative tactics the women take to relieve their economic burden illegally while hiding it from their husbands.
The play runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students.
“Faces of Evanston” photography contest takes place Thursday
The reception for the photography contest “Faces of Evanston” will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center, 927 Noyes St. Submissions for the sixth annual photography competition, themed “Legacy,” are no longer being accepted, and judging will commence at the Thursday reception. Entries are judged based on composition, originality, photo quality and relation to Evanston and the idea of legacy.
Food, wine and music will be provided. Winners and honorable mentions will all receive certificates and recognition at the event, according to the contest’s website.
Cook County absentee voter forms available online or by phone
The Cook County Clerk’s office will begin to accept absentee ballot voter applications for the 2010 elections on Thursday. Voters who are unable to get to their polling place on election day or unable to attend Early Voting are encouraged to send in absentee ballots. It is no longer necessary to provide a reason for absentee voting.
Any registered suburban Cook County voter may apply for an absentee ballot through the Cook County Clerk’s website, www.cookcountyclerk.com/elections/absenteevoting or by calling 312-603-0946. Registered voters can cast absentee ballots by mail or in person before election day.
