Former African American Studies department chair to return as Graduate School dean

University President Morton Schapiro announced Wednesday that former Northwestern African American Studies Department Chair Dwight McBride will return as dean of The Graduate School this fall.

Dwight McBride will be rejoining the NU community after three years s dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

His tenure as Graduate School dean will begin on Nov. 1. Simon Greenwold, currently the senior associate dean of The Graduate School, will fill the role of interim dean for September and October.

“As Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Dwight has gained considerable experience working to enhance student and faculty opportunities in a broad spectrum of academic fields,” Provost Dan Linzer wrote in an email to NU students and staff, “and we are delighted that he will bring his considerable energy, insights, and talents to bear on graduate education across the University at Northwestern.
