The labor and operator unions strike came to an end Tuesday, said Sat Nagar, senior engineer at the Division of Transportation in Evanston Public Works. Construction resumed Wednesday, he said.
The approximately three-week-long construction strike by heavy equipment operators halted work on several projects in Evanston, including road resurfacing work, water main work projects and construction work on the Civic Center, said Eric Palmer, Evanston community information coordinator.
The strike involved 15,000 members of two unions plus additional thousands from other unions, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
A continuance in the strike could have affected projects’ completion by the start of school.– Jessica Allen
