Style Watch: Rob Han

His closet might lack Louboutins and body-con dresses, but that isn’t stopping Weinberg sophomore Robert Han from being a fashion aficionado.

When his friend gave him a few old copies of GQ Magazine, Han emptied out his wardrobe, trading his indie band shirts and Rainbow flip-flops for more tailored pieces and sophisticated threads.

Han’s main gripe with Northwestern students’ style is they usually dress for comfort. “I wish people would dress nicer,” he says with a laugh. “You can be comfortable and put-together at the same time.”

A self-proclaimed “e-shopaholic,” Han says his shopping habit has become an expensive one, so he tries to recycle his clothing as much as he can. If he finds a good deal on a designer item, he’ll make the purchase and post it on an online shopping forum. Other members of the forum will then buy his item, usually at a return that gives him enough money to buy something he really loves.

Han advises NU guys to strive for a minimalist look with subdued colors. He cites designers like Band of Outsiders and Robert Geller as good examples of this aesthetic. “Not looking like you’re trying too hard is the key to men’s fashion,” he says.
