Backpack stolen from man on street
Three men snatched a backpack from its owner Tuesday while he was walking home from the El, police said.
The owner said he was walking on the 600 block of Oakton Street when three men approached him and grabbed the backpack, Evanston Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther said.
The bag contained magazines and sunglasses, Guenther said. The owner was uninjured and could not describe the men who took his bag. Evanston apartment ransacked
Two laptops were stolen Tuesday from an apartment on the 800 block of Forest Avenue, police said.
The owner said he found the door ajar with the deadbolts damaged, Guenther said. The bedroom was ransacked and two Dell laptops and about $40 were missing.

A laptop disappeared from a Northwestern classroom Wednesday after the owner left it unattended, police said.
A student was charging her MacBook on a windowsill at Seabury Hall, 600 Haven St., and left it there after class by mistake, Deputy Chief of NU Police Dan McAleer said. When she returned, the laptop was gone.
The student said she e-mailed her class but received no helpful responses, McAleer said.
