Northwestern News Network was recognized by the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences Chicago/Midwest chapter on Wednesday night for a piece produced last year. This was the first year the Association included a collegiate category in its Chicago/Midwest Emmy Awards. Submissions were due last June and nominations were announced in September. NNN received four nominations.
The student news organization won a College Production Plaque in the Information Program/Segment category for a 2008 presidential election piece.
Medill senior Jennifer Trammell worked as a co-news director on the election coverage and also won an individual award in the News Features category for a piece on food allergy research at NU she created for a Boston-based Web site.
Trammell, who attended the awards ceremony on Wednesday, said she felt honored both as an individual winner and on behalf of NNN.
“We are an entirely volunteer organization,” Trammell said. “We do it because we love it and (Wednesday) night we got to sit side-by-side with professionals who do this work.”
