The 10th anniversary of Northwestern’s Multicultural Center should serve as a reminder for how much still needs to be done to promote diversity on campus. The MCC and Multicultural Student Affairs have worked to promote this goal by bringing together the wide array of groups on campus for cooperation and event programming.
The MCC provides an excellent venue for students to explore their own cultures and discuss diversity, but more students need to take advantage of opportunities to learn about other ethnic and religious groups. Having a diverse campus means more than an increase in admission rates – an active cross-communication between different types of student groups, cultural and non-cultural alike, would continue to drive NU toward a broader embrace of both our similarities and differences.
