Former University President Henry Bienen will be serving in myriad new capacities, post Northwestern, that will lead him from Chicago to India and elsewhere, he wrote in an e-mail last Tuesday.
Bienen plans to leave for India at the end of September, where he will work with the Hindustan Times, he said.
He also said he intends to maintain ties in Qatar through the Qatar Foundation in Doha, the organization that built Education City where NU Qatar opened its doors last year.
On August 26 the United Football League announced Bienen as the new chairman of its executive board. Bienen had a legacy of support for NU’s football program. The Wildcats made it to six bowl games during Bienen’s tenure, most notably the Rose Bowl in 1996.
As of Tuesday, Bienen wrote he had already attended several UFL board meetings.
Bienen was also recently appointed the vice chairman of Rasmussen College, he said. The college is based in Chicago with campuses in Illinois, Minnesota, Florida, North Dakota and Green Bay.
Bienen said there is a chance he will return to work in the banking sector as well. He served on the board of Bear Stearns before the firm’s collapse in 2008 but did not specify where he might seek future employment, beyond that it would be in New York City.
“Right now I’m feeling that my dance card is very full,” Bienen said.
More to come in The Daily’s first issue on Sept. 21.
