No word yet on body found near lake

Evanston police are still investigating the death of a man found washed up on the rocks of an Evanston beach, officials said.

Police received a phone call about the discovery of a body with a gunshot wound to the head at 11:26 a.m. June 14, said Evanston Police Cmdr. Thomas Guenther. The body was found on the 900-block of Edgemere Court , Guenther said.

Police also found a handgun near the body and are considering the possibility of suicide. The investigation will go forward when the man has been officially identified, Guenther said.

The man, whom medical examiners estimate is in his 30’s and of indeterminate race, was dressed in a purple shirt, black pants and dress shoes.

An autopsy was scheduled for June 15. Guenther said the cause of death has not been confirmed.

No further information was available at press time.
