PORN AT TECH CANCELED
Porn at Tech has been canceled, A&O Productions officials announced Wednesday.
The film would have been screened Saturday, Dillo Day evening, in Ryan Family Auditorium for the annual event cosponsored by A&O and Mayfest.
A&O is not permitted to screen the film for the first time in over 30 years, said Barry McCardel, A&O public relations and promotions co-chair.
“This is something we’ve been working on and we’re not going to be able to do it this year,” the Communication sophomore said. “We’re hoping that the tradition will return next year.”
Last year’s film screening encountered backlash when the film was not watched beforehand and “resulted in a presentation with themes, scenes, and situations that some found to be offensive,” according to a statement last year from A&O officials.
NU HELPS BRING MIKE POSNER
Students who joined the “Bring Mike Posner to Dillo Day” effort on Facebook will get their wish – the hip-hop artist will perform at 4 p.m. on Dillo Day, Mayfest officials announced Wednesday.
“I’m super excited to perform for the students at NU,” Posner said.
Rapper Big Sean, who collaborates with Posner, will perform as well, Richter said.
TALLY HALL, VEGA WILL ALSO PERFORM
Indie-rock band Tally Hall will also perform on Dillo Day, band management and Mayfest confirmed Wednesday.
“We looked into them last year and it didn’t work out,” Richter said.
Tally Hall, originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, is best known for its live cover of “Just a Friend” by ’90’s artist Biz Markie. In the past, the group has performed at the Lollapalooza and South by Southwest music festivals and their music has been featured on “The O.C.” and “The Real World.”
VEGA, a DJ from Austin, Texas, will also play two sets during Dillo Day.
