ROGERS PARK–A Rogers Park elementary school has reported Illinois’ first probable case of swine flu, Chicago Public Schools CEO Ron Huberman said in a news conference today.

The school, Kilmer Elementary School, 6700 N. Greenview Ave., is closed pending further investigation.

Faculty and staff were on hand outside the building, distributing flyers to parents, students and community members who had not yet heard the news. Though Huberman identified the case as “probable,” the flyer, created by CPS now calls the illness “confirmed.”

Huberman said CPS was alerted of the case Tuesday night and subsequently discovered an unusually high absentee rate at the school.

“Based on the information of both the probable case of swine flu and the variation in attendence, we made the determination in conjunction with the Department of Public Health that we would be closing the school,” Huberman said.

More to come.
