Medill junior Bill Pulte will make his debut today as ASG’s first vice president.
The new cabinet-level position, created last spring, is responsible for supervising the four current vice presidents and would serve as the main liaison to the administration.
Pulte said he would be dealing with administrators, but stressed that this job would be shared, especially with ASG President Neal Sales-Griffin .
“Obviously Neal speaks for the student body,” he said. “He was elected to do so.”
Pulte has no ASG experience, and Sales-Griffin chose him for the position because of their connection through the Institute for Student Business Education, Pulte said.
But the president of Pi Kappa Alpha said he knows how to lobby administrators and work through bureaucracy because of his work in the Greek community and as the owner of a small business that takes helicopter photography. Pulte is also responsible for getting his fraternity on-campus housing for the first time in 13 years, he said.
“I’m not one for sitting around and BS-ing,” Pulte said.
Pulte said he hopes to start the process with two bills that will be introduced to the Senate this week.
One would create an online marketplace for students on NUlink.com. Pulte, the former CEO of online classifieds company CampusList Inc., said the system would be low-cost.
The other would contract a company to run a shuttle to the airport before Winter Break. Shuttles would leave at set times and students would be able to sign up online.
Pulte said he believes ASG can only be successful if it lets the students know about their activities. If the proposition for an NUlink marketplace were to pass, there would be a heavy marketing campaign behind it, Pulte said.
Weinberg junior and Delta Upsilon President Tom Smithburg will be the new Human Resources Director.
