We endorse Jeffrey M. Schoenberg over Brendan Appel for 9th District State Senator.
The incumbent Schoenberg has already shown a commitment to efforts on gun control, patient’s rights and lowering health care costs. But concerns remain regarding Schoenberg’s transfer of campaign funds to other senators at the same time as he plans his run to replace retiring Senate President Emil Jones.
Nonetheless, we oppose challenger Brendan Appel and his ill-planned platform. He proposes a required two-thirds supermajority on any tax or fee increases. Appel also intends to end sanctuary cities and bail for illegal immigrants, which would require significant changes to Evanston’s current policies.
