On Monday morning, a South Campus rivalry came to a screeching halt – or at least it should have.
You see, the annual CRC versus PARC capture the flag game was interrupted by University Police. According to various firsthand reports from participants on the PARC side, the police interrupted the fun by telling all participants to leave the field.
While members of the dorms were talking with the authorities, a decision was reached to end the game. It was during this altercation that CRC found the PARC flag and claimed victory.
Ridiculous! Now CRC claims victory over PARC. Common sense dictates that the game should have simply been postponed until the cops left; this is clearly not what happened.
I was not in the game. I was walking out of The Daily when it happened, but my obervations lead me to align myself with PARC (as if being the dorm treasurer wasn’t enough).
According to CRC, the flag was found and carried across the line before the cops arrived.
However, from what I saw the cops came well before the incessant cheering of the CRC team began. Now, draw your own conclusions, but I would think the cheering would begin as soon as one team had the other’s flag in its own territory. That’s just me.
Cheating? Maybe.
A win for CRC? Definitely not.
