The Weekly Memo

Have an internship yet? A summer job? What about something to do after graduation? It’s finally mid-May, which means the only thing that can get in the way of our upcoming Dillo Day celebrations are those pesky little questions from parents and peers. For seniors, the pressure is especially high as all try to figure out just how much their nearly $200,000 education is worth.

And while this issue might not provide you with any of the concrete answers you’re looking for, it might give you some fodder for your Lakefill-filled daydreams. Think you’re pretty? Then join the ranks of NU women in our Life/Style piece who make bank doing pageants (pg. 5). Think you’re talented? Check out our Culture feature to find out how bands get booked at hot city venues like Metro (pg. 8). Think you’re smart? Then maybe you should get advice from the sources in our cover story: It’s on Northwestern students who make some extra cash working as tutors for the North Shore’s wealthy families (pg. 6). And yes, it pays well.

But if you don’t want to think about getting a job – we can’t blame you – then hopefully our other coverage will provide a distraction while you’re waiting to speak with career services. Fashion abounds, both with Man on the Beat (pg. 11) and our Taste Test reviews (pg. 5). And if all else fails, flip to the back for The Brow (pg. 12). Maybe they’ll get you excited for Dillo Day – but you probably don’t need us for that.
