Just a few blocks from campus lies the town’s key to the heart of the young sophisticate, the Blu Sushi Lounge (1710 Orrington Ave.) – a sexy, sleek and sophisticated bar and lounge that is trendy enough to make you forget that you’re in Evanston.
Decorated with elements of fire and earth, varying hues of brown on the tables and wall paneling complement the red dinner seating. The first floor also has a sushi bar and a regular bar with comfortable mod-white seating. The music is upbeat and provides energy but is low enough to chitchat with friends.
The second floor, which opens at 10 p.m., takes the grown and sexy vibe to a whole other level. It has dim lighting, plush seating and a second bar. The space allows for group and one-on-one settings, making it the perfect space for a drink with friends or to host a party.
The bar – stocked with premium liquors and rare Asian juices – make the specialty drinks something to be excited about. The Ecstasy uses a liqueur by the same name. This pomegranate martini includes strawberry and other fruit flavors. Some drinks even have the cooling taste of aloe. A bottle of wine or sake can run from $24 to $119, and the special martinis average in the low teens.
Of course we can’t forget the sushi. Just like the drinks, there are the traditional dishes that everyone loves and some specialty rolls. The California Sunset and offers a new take on the California roll, adding salmon roe (salmon eggs) into the mix.
Blu Lounge is a great spot for lunch or dinner, for business or pleasure. And with great service and an excellent menu, it just might become your favorite hangout.
